This is a concept art I created for the fairy tale Juniper Tree. I was imagining to retell the story from the mother's perspective.
Synopsis: The stepmother does not like her stepson. She intentionally drunks her stepson with gin to give his flesh an alcohol flavor. Then She kills the stepson and makes him into dry aged steak.

I created a set of character designs for my favorite children literature «The Little Princess», and this is how I imagine Sarah will be like in her stage of life. From left to right is how Sarah progresses through different stage in the story, a visualized version of a growing curve. I like this story because of Sarah's power in believing in imagination itself. I also like her inner nobility and strength that is not for other, but only for her beliefs.
Ms Minchin from the Little Princess, the evil principal of the story. Maria Minchin is a the villain in the story, and I think her main feature is her mercenary and rigidness.
Ermengarde is friendly, hardworking, and slow paced girl through out the story, so I want her to have a comfortable vibe by constructing her through round shapes and soft color.
Becky is Sarah's best friend, so I illustrate she receiving Sarah's gifts. She suffers from malnutrition and children labor, so I want she to be bony and timid.
Lottie is obnoxious and cute at the same time, and she is a spoiled child in the beginning of the story. I paid attention to the design in her cloth, and incorporate both triangles and circles.
